Day 1: Welcome to Uganda / transfer to Kibale Forest
On arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be met by our Igufa Safaris’ driver guide. After briefing, they will transfer you south west to Kibale Forest National Park (KFNP). It’s approximetly a 5hour journey from Entebbe to KFNP and your trip will take you through small towns, traditional homesteads and the occasional forest and vegetation cover.
Arrive in Fort Portal where you will have a deserved break before proceeding for the last hour of your journey to your overnight lodge in Kibale Forest, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Monkey business!
Early start – you will be transferred after breakfast to the Chimpanzee tracking information office for a pre-briefing by the ranger guide who then leads you into the rain forest where you will spend most of the morning in search of chimpanzees and other primate specie. These primates are very mobile and viewing them is unpredictable; the forest walk is an enriching activity.
Uganda is home to 5000 chimpanzees making it an ideal location to see them – other primates in Kibale Forest include; Lhoestes, Red-colobus, Blues, Red-tailed, grey cheeked mangabeys, birds and butterflies. The guide will provide detailed explanations on not only primates but also the forest’s fauna and flora.
Return to have lunch and later transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) following the Rwenzori Mountain range most of the journey. Relax for rest of the evening, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Queen Elizabeth activity
After an early morning warm up tea or coffee at 6:30am, you will be transferred for a game drive along Kasenyi tracks and Queens mile in search of animals like: lions, elephants, cape buffalos, warthogs, spotted hyenas, mangoose, waterbucks, kobs and, if lucky, the leopard. With over 606 bird species recorded here, this is a birder’s paradise.
Settle down to lunch after an exciting morning before you transfer to the Mweya peninsula to enjoy a unique two hours boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This launch cruise gives you a great opportunity for photography, bird watching and game viewing at close range. It is believed that this area hosts the highest concentration of hippo on the continent.
Return to lodge for an easy evening there after.
Day 4: Queen Elizabeth – Ruhejeri (Musanze district)
After an early morning warm up tea or coffee, you will transfer to Rwanda in the Volcanoes via Kisoro Kyanika border post where you will go through border crossing procedures before carrying on to arrive in Ruhenjeri Musanze district for lunch. Relax for the rest of the day, dinner and overnight.
After your breakfast at 8:00am, transfer to the gorilla tracking information office for a pre-briefing by the park rangers who will then lead you into the Volcans trekking the great apes. You will spend about 1hour watching these relatives of ours before returning to your hotel to relax for the rest of the day or freely take a walk to the nearby Ruhenjeri town.
Day 6: to Kigali Airport
Transfer to Kigali arriving in time for your return flight home.
